Mrs. Woofter teaches Chorus, Musical Theatre, and Piano at JFHMS. She also directs our school musical every year. She is a graduate of UVA and JMU and has taught at Hillyard for 6 years. She really enjoys sharing her love of music, and musicals in particular, with students and getting them started on their musical journey that will hopefully continue on through high school and beyond!
Chorus
Chorus: If you love to sing or are interested in learning more about how to grow your singing voice, then this is the class for you. We sing songs in all different kinds of styles as a group and perform concerts throughout the year. Chorus is a great place to make new friends through music and try something new. We have numerous events throughout the year, including the All-County Chorus field trip, District Chorus field trip, Busch Gardens field trip, ChoirFest, Winter Concert, Spring Concert, Fall Showcase, and Spring Showcase.
Musical Theater
Musical Theatre combines acting, singing, and dancing. You get experience working on all of those skills on stage during class, and you get to learn about all kinds of famous musicals throughout history. This is a great class to be creative, express yourself, and make friends. We have several performances throughout the year, including the Fall Showcase, Spring Showcase, opportunity to participate in the large-scale after school musical that we put on each year in the Spring
Piano
If you've always wanted to learn how to play the piano, you should try this class. It is a very calming addition to your schedule, where you can come let go of stress, put your headphones in, and play the piano. You will learn how to read music and play all kinds of different songs. There are no concert requirements, but have the opportunity to perform for each other in class and participate in the Fall Showcase and Spring Showcase if you'd like to play for an audience in a concert.
