Learning in RCPS
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights(OCR) enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance. Title IX states
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
RCPS will foster an educational environment that provides equal educational opportunity for all students. Educational programs and services will be designed to meet the varying needs of all students and will not discriminate against any individual for reasons of race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including pregnancy), gender, marital or economic status, age, disability, genetics, or veteran status and retaliation against anyone who files a complaint of discrimination, participates in such a proceeding, or otherwise opposes discrimination.
Further, no student will, on the basis of gender, be excluded from participating in, denied the benefits of, or subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity conducted by the division. The school division will treat its students without discrimination on the basis of gender as this pertains to course offerings, athletics, counseling, employment assistance, and extracurricular activities.
