MTC Students Honoring First Responders

On Wednesday, September 11th, Rockingham County high school students from Massanutten Technical Center participated in a field trip to James Madison University’s Bridgeforth Stadium for a commemorative stair climb walk. This event honored the heroic first responders of 9/11 by symbolically retracing the steps they took in service. Participants collectively climbed 69,741 of the stadium stairs as a tribute to the first responder's bravery and sacrifice. This meaningful opportunity was 33 climbs of the 110 stories that made up the World Trade Center.

Students enrolled in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Criminal Justice classes participated in this meaningful climb. Beau Dickenson, Supervisor of Social Studies, emphasized, “This event stands as a living tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the first responders during the September 11th attacks - by symbolically retracing their steps, our students honor their heroism while connecting with the profound lessons of bravery and resilience that mark this pivotal moment in U.S. history.”
