Unified basketball is an inclusive version of basketball that brings together athletes with and without disabilities on the same team. Rockingham County Public Schools has been hosting Unified basketball for over ten years. The key goal is to create an environment where all participants can contribute meaningfully, regardless of skill level. The focus is on promoting cooperation and respect rather than pure competition.
Eric Baylor, Supervisor of VHSL Activities for Rockingham County Public Schools, stated that "Unified basketball does exactly what the title signifies: it unifies students, parents, teachers, and the community, as the true meaning of sport is exemplified by the athletes who play from all of our schools. Everyone leaves the gym a winner at unified basketball games!"
