Rockingham County Public Schools are pleased to announce the continuation of a partnership with Lakeside Book Company, North America's leading book manufacturing and distribution company, to bring a Halloween-themed reading initiative to local elementary schools. As part of the program, Lakeside Book employees will visit classrooms dressed as beloved characters from popular books and movies to read to students. This initiative engages students in a fun and creative way to foster a love of reading and promote literacy. By dressing as iconic characters, Lakeside Book employees hope to demonstrate their passion for books and inspire students to see reading as an exciting and enjoyable activity. On October 24th, Lakeside Book Company employees will visit 15 local elementary school classrooms, reading to students while dressed in costume. This special event builds upon the success of Lakeside Book's previous program, "Phones Down, Books Up," continuing their efforts to give back to the community and encourage young readers. Students enjoy the classroom visits, often asking when the company's employees will be back to read more books. "We are thrilled to have Lakeside Book Company partner with us again in such an imaginative and meaningful way," said Doug Alderfer, Assistant Superintendent of Leadership and Academic Support. "This Halloween event provides a unique opportunity to connect with students, encouraging them to embrace reading and its benefits while having fun." James Rahn, Vice President of Operations at Lakeside Book's Harrisonburg plant, shared, "At Lakeside Book, we believe that books open the door to creativity and knowledge. By combining reading with the excitement of Halloween, we hope to inspire students and help develop a lifelong love of reading."
